The history of the car rental service

During the last years, the car rental service is a successful one due to the numerous advantages it offers to tourists, business people and those who have problems with their own car. The rental is made for determined periods and for a fee, the price being established depending on the rental period, the type of car and its equipment.

When and how this service appeared, there is information that only the passionate ones know. Because we love what we do, we have prepared a short history of the car rental service.

• The idea of ​​car rental was born before the advent of cars, when the rental of means of transport such as carriages and carts was common.
• It is assumed that with the advent of cars, this habit has been maintained.
• The first to think of doing business with this was Joe Saunders of the United States, who in 1916 offered to rent his car (Model T Ford) for a fee.
• In one year he earned so much that he bought another 17 cars of the same model, which he rented for 10 cents / mile.
• 1917 The first Ford Livery Company is born.
• 1918 appears the first competitor named Walter L. Jacobs, with the company "Rent-a-car" which had a fleet of 12 Ford Model T cars.
• The company later changed its name twice to "Saunders Drive-It-Yourself System" to "Saunders System".
• 1926 was a resounding success, being extended to 56 cities.

In Romania, the first company that offered car rental services appeared in 2003 and since then competing denominators have appeared on the market with different offers and types of cars.
